Likewise the man who has his spiritual eyes open knows that the ultimate truth about earth and water lies in our apprehension of the eternal will which works in time and takes shape in the forces we realise under those aspects. This is not mere knowledge, as science is, but it is a preception of the soul by the soul. This does not lead us to power, as knowledge does, but it gives us joy, which is the product of the union of kindred things." (Rabindranath Tagore: Sadhana - The Realisation of Life)

- "The story of Ambapali reminds us of the lotus flower – which is sacred to Hindu, Jain and Buddhist religious beliefs. The lotus grows in murky water, but it rises on a long stalk, above the surface, in its glorious bloom. Untouched by the impurity of the slime and slush in which it grows, the lotus symbolises the purity of heart and mind. Like the sacred lotus, Ambapali too, managed to rise above her birth and her immoral life, to achieve spiritual evolution with the grace of the Buddha." (J. P. Vaswani: Saints with a Difference)

- "No selfish heart can really be glad. No soul that acts solely for personal gain can enter the spirit of joy; and no man who seeks only his own pleasure and comfort can ever take part in the music of rejoicing. That these people exist is true, but their claim to the title "Yogi" seems as absurd to the true Yogi as does the claim to the title "Doctor" on the part of the man who pares one's corns seem to the eminent surgeon, or as does the title of "Professor," as assumed by the street corner vendor of worm medicine, seem to the President of Harvard or Yale."
